Acute diseases are a group of illnesses that develop quickly and usually clear up within a few days or weeks. Chronic diseases occur gradually and worsen over some time. From broken bones to flu, heart conditions, and arthritis, infants to older adults experience them all. If you want to know the difference between acute and chronic diseases, keep reading this article. This article will discuss acute or chronic diseases, their differences, and Houston acute disease management in detail.

Acute Disease V/S Chronic Disease: Quick Difference

    Acute Disease  Chronic Disease
Acute disease is a health condition that develops quickly and lasts for a shorter time. Chronic disease is a series of health conditions that develop and worsens over time.
Acute diseases occur too quickly. Chronic diseases develop gradually with time.
Acute diseases are treatable and can be cured completely. Symptoms of chronic diseases are manageable but cannot cure completely.
Acute diseases cause sudden damage.  Chronic diseases cause long-term damage.
Example: Fractures, jaundice, common cold, and others. Example: cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and others.

    What Is Acute Disease?

Acute disease is a disease that occurs immediately and does not last for several days. Common acute diseases include fractures, jaundice, and the common cold. These conditions mostly require medical assistance, or they might become chronic disorders.

    Common Causes Of Acute Disease

    • Acute diseases caused due to infection or virus in the body.
    • Any injury can cause acute diseases.
    • Misuse of medications and drugs.

    What Is Chronic Disease?

Chronic diseases are a group of several conditions which occur over some time and last for a longer time, sometimes forever. The initial symptoms of chronic diseases are extremely mild. Common examples are Cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and others.

    Common Causes Of Chronic Disease

    • Unhealthy food or drinks, such as excess alcohol consumption, junk food, and others, result in chronic diseases.
    • Unhealthy environmental and lifestyle behavior
    • Genetic factors also result in chronic diseases

    Treatment Of Acute Illness

If an acute disease is cured on its own, contact your health expert. Your doctor will conduct a thorough diagnostic physical exam to review your symptoms. Based on that, a comprehensive treatment plan will be suggested to treat illnesses. Based on the kind of disease, the treatment may include prescription medications, lifestyle changes, bed rest, or over-the-counter medications.

    Treatment Of Chronic Illness

A chronic disease management plan is suggested for patients experiencing two or more chronic diseases. During your visit to the heartcare expert, they conduct standard tests to identify the underlying cause of diseases.

Managing chronic illness may include daily medications, dietary changes, regular exercise, smoking and alcohol cessation, and physical or occupational therapy. If you’re fortunate, such diseases can only be cured through lifestyle changes. In most cases, medication is given to control symptoms and their effects.

    Conclusion

Due to lifestyle and other factors, acute and chronic diseases are common. However, both of them are extremely different. On the one hand, acute diseases are treatable and stay for short periods, whereas chronic diseases tend to stay longer, leaving a patient helpless. The best way to avoid such diseases is through physical activities, following a healthy routine, and keeping the faith.
